Shubman Gill Lauds Rohit Sharma Amidst Series Defeat in IND…

Indian cricket team captain, Shubman Gill, has praised former captain, Rohit Sharma, for his performance in the second One-Day International (ODI) against Australia in Adelaide. This match resulted in a series loss for India with Australia taking a 2-0 victory.

Despite the defeat, Gill commended Rohit’s resilience against tough bowling from Australia’s Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, as he attempted to build a large score. Rohit scored 73 runs in 97 balls, leading the game in scoring. Gill further highlighted the difficulties faced by the team during the game and shared his views on the significance of the toss. He also acknowledged that the team had a hard time defending their total of 264/9.

The match also saw Shreyas Iyer scoring 61 runs for India. However, Australia’s Matthew Short, Cooper Connolly, and Mitchell Owen performed well, contributing significantly to their team’s victory, with Short scoring 74 runs in 78 balls. Adam Zampa’s four-wicket haul earned him the Player of the Match award.

Rohit and Iyer stabilised India’s innings with a 118-run partnership after early losses, while Axar Patel added 44 runs. A late surge from Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh brought India’s score to their final total of 264/9.

Gill’s reflections drew attention to both the positives from Rohit’s innings and the areas where India fell short in defending their total. A poll asked whether it was a mistake to hand Shubman Gill the ODI captaincy given the series loss to Australia.
