Six Indian Boxers Reach Finals in Historic Run at 2025 Asian…
The young Indian boxers made history in the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain, with six of them reaching the finals. The finalists included five girls and one boy, and the country also clinched a bronze medal through Anant Deshmukh in the men’s 66 kg category.
Among the girls, Khusi Chand (46 kg) shone brightly, winning a flawless 5-0 round against her Mongolian contender, setting a positive start for the team. Chandrika Bhoreshi Pujari (54 kg) followed suit with another convincing 5-0 victory against Kazakhstan. Harnoor Kaur (66 kg), too displayed strong counter-punching skills, beating her Chinese Taipei competitor with a similar 5-0 margin. Anshika also continued India’s clean sweep by proving stronger than her Chinese counterpart in the +80 kg category. Ahaana (50 kg), although facing a close competition against Uzbekistan, managed to win with a 3-2 split decision.
Representing the boys, Lanchenba Singh Moibungkhongbam (50 kg) triumphed with a dominant 5-0 victory over his opponent from People’s Republic of Korea. However, though performing with admirable valour, Anant Deshmukh’s campaign ended in the semifinals against a formidable Kazakh boxer, getting him a bronze medal.
With such a strong presence in the finals, India has already marked one of its most successful performances in youth boxing at a continental level. These boxing champions were trained under coaches Vinod Kumar (boys) and Jitender Raj Singh (girls) at the National Institute of Sports in Patiala. As the tournament wraps up on October 30, they will now attempt to secure their gold medals.
