Swain Scorches in No.10 South Carolina’s 38-10 Victory with 2 Punt Return TDs
In a recent match, Vicari Swain, a player for No. 10 South Carolina, returned two punts for touchdowns, enabling the Gamecocks to secure a 38-10 win over South Carolina State.
The play was full of excitement, as Swain eluded a tackle and ran 64 yards for a touchdown. He then followed this up with a 42-yard return after gathering a partially blocked punt. This was not the first time for Swain to show such excellent performance.
In the previous week’s match against Virginia Tech, he scored an 80-yard punt return touchdown, tying the school’s single-season record. Swain has now become the first Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) player to score twice in a game by returning punts since Daequan Hardy of Penn State did it against UMass in October 2023.
However, South Carolina struggled offensively, gaining only 253 yards, with usually solid quarterback LaNorris Sellers only completing two of his first eight attempts, ending the game with only 128 yards passing. Sellers also led the Gamecocks in rushing, but with only 23 yards on the game.
Despite this, South Carolina coach Shane Beamer remained optimistic, saying, “They’ve created an identity already where people will stay in their seats on fourth down.”
However, he admitted to the team’s shortcomings, saying, “We know we have to be a lot better. We can’t rely on our defense and special teams to score three touchdowns a game.”
Looking ahead, South Carolina might need to up their game to maintain their position in the Top 10, as they face a test against Vanderbilt in the forthcoming Southeastern Conference opener.
