Three Medals Confirmed for India as Pooja Rani and Jaismine…
Indian female boxers, Pooja Rani and Jaismine Lamboria, have secured a spot in the semi-finals at the ongoing World Boxing Championships in Liverpool. This development now brings the total number of Indian women semi-finalists to three – Nupur Sheoran (+80kg), Pooja Rani (80kg) and Jaismine (57kg) – ensuring India wins three medals at the championships.
34-year-old Pooja Rani, a seasoned boxer, overpowered Poland’s teenage contender Emilia Koterska in the women’s 80kg category with a patient, studied approach. The contest resulted in a 3-2 split decision in Pooja’s favour. She will now compete against England’s Emily Asquith, a two-time European champion.
On the other hand, the 24-year-old rising star, Jaismine Lamboria, demonstrated her boxing skills by dominating Uzbekistan’s Khumorabonu Mamajonovato in the 57kg division to secure a landslide 5-0 victory. With her long reach and strategic footwork, Jaismine controlled the fight from start to finish. She will face Venezuelan Omailyn Carolina Alcala in the semi-final.
In the men’s category, Abhinash Jamwal failed to progress further, losing out to Olympic bronze medallist Lasha Guruli of Georgia in the 65kg quarterfinals. His defeat indicated a disappointing trend for Indian men in this championship, with only Jadumani Singh Mandengbam still in contention.
