Tom Brady Statue: Iconic NFL Star Amuses Patriots Crowd with Hilarious Jets Jibe at Unveiling

The New England Patriots have immortalized their legendary player Tom Brady by unveiling a statue of him outside the Gillette Stadium. This is the franchise’s first time honoring a player in such manner. Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion whose career spanned two decades of dominance with the Patriots, marked the moment with both humor and gratitude and made a well-timed dig at his long-time rival, the New York Jets.

During the statue unveiling, a playful jab at the Jets took place. The Patriots’ preseason opener against the Washington Commanders set the scene for the grand reveal, with owner Robert Kraft hailing Brady as the heart and soul of the franchise before leading the countdown. The bronze statue features Brady in a victory stance, which is a familiar image to most Patriots supporters.

The crowd, many of whom chanted Brady’s name throughout the event, were treated to more than a sentimental acknowledgment from their ex-quarterback. Brady amused bystanders with a joke about the Jets: “This statue isn’t just for Pats fans. It will also give Jets fans something to throw their beers at as they leave the stadium every year. Probably in the second quarter. Maybe in the third.”

Brady’s comment sparked much laughter, accentuated by his historical dominance over New York, with a notable 31-8 career record against the Jets. Even in retirement, the rivalry appears to be very much alive; Brady once again landed a verbal blow on his old adversaries.

Despite the jab at the Jets grabbing a few headlines, the day mainly served to celebrate a career that is unparalleled in NFL history. Brady expressed his deep gratitude to his loyal fans, “Thank you so much for being here. It means the world to me. I appreciate it. Thank you.”

Brady’s impressive track record includes six Super Bowl victories with New England, three MVP awards, an NFL record for passing yards (89,214), pass touchdowns (649), and total wins (286, including playoffs). He joked that the statue represented the first time sports writers would attribute the word ‘chiseled’ to him. This mix of modesty and showmanship is what made Brady both beloved in New England and detested by rivals. Today, the statue stands as an eternal testament to Brady’s unparalleled legacy and his knack for keeping rivalries fiery, even in retirement.
