Toronto Raptors Elevate GM Bobby Webster, Seal New Contract Deal | NBA News Times of India

The Toronto Raptors have promoted Bobby Webster from general manager to head of basketball operations. The announcement followed the signing of a new contract agreement between the two parties. Webster is taking over from Masai Ujiri, the former executive of the team.

The news was confirmed by insider reports, which emphasized that Webster’s promotion came with a fresh contract. June 27 saw the end of Ujiri’s tenure with the Raptors, just a day after the NBA draft. The team had hired CAA Executive Search to find a new president and sever ties with Ujiri.

Webster joined the Raptors in 2013 as the vice president of basketball management, initially hired by Ujiri. His tenure included the Raptors claiming the NBA championship in 2019. Prior to joining the team, Webster spent seven years working for NBA’s front office, specializing in salary cap issues.

After leaving his brief role as Raptors GM, Jeff Weltman moved to take a position as president of the Orlando Magic. This opened the pathway for Webster’s promotion. The 21-season veteran of the NBA is now heading into his ninth season as a general manager.

Despite the Raptors looking at other potential candidates for the top executive role, Webster greatly impressed the CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Keith Pelley, and other officials. Webster also took advantage of his time during the NBA’s summer league in Las Vegas to display his management philosophy and style to MLSE.
