Kalyan Chaubey Comments on ISL Return Plans Amid Uncertainty
In light of the Indian Super League’s suspension and the questions surrounding the future of Indian football, AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey shared some optimistic developments.
Recent weeks have seen significant doubt cast over the future of Indian football due to the suspension of the domestic season. The AIFF is working to renew contracts that date back to ISL’s inception in 2010, placing the league’s future in uncertainty.

Kalyan Chaubey, however, has brought some positivity by stating that progress is being made and a potential timeline for solutions is being worked on.
Efforts to Overcome Challenges
Chaubey acknowledged, “Discussions covering five major areas have taken place. ISL should resume, and I remain hopeful.” He mentioned that the marketing agreements from 2010 need renewal alongside a significant constitutional matter awaiting judgment, contributing to the current uncertainties.
‘Resolution in 2.5 to 3 Months…’
Despite the challenges, Chaubey is confident that measures are being taken to ensure the league’s return, indicating that they might consider hosting the Super Cup before the ISL if needed. “If it takes about two and a half to three months to resolve these issues, the league can still conclude by the end of May,” he added.
With the ISL’s current suspension and the national team’s struggles, the AIFF’s operations face a confidence crisis. When asked about solutions, Chaubey emphasized the need for investment and a long-term development strategy to foster growth over the next 15-20 years.
