Uncertainty Looms: Pietrangelo’s Injury Recovery and Unpredictable Return to Golden Knights | NHL News
Vegas Golden Knights defenseman, Alex Pietrangelo, has left fans and the hockey world speculating about his future in the sport due to his ongoing hip rehab. Pietrangelo made no definitive comment about his return to the team this season but emphasized his rehabilitation process is his main focus.
Earlier this year, the veteran was put on long-term injured reserve, allowing the Knights the salary cap freedom to acquire star forward Mitch Marner through a sign-and-trade deal. Pietrangelo was initially expected to have surgery for a bilateral femur reconstruction which would have effectively ended his season. However, he recently revealed in a press conference that his rehab is going well.
With two years left on his seven-year, $61.6 million contract, Pietrangelo is carefully considering his recovery process and the possibility of playing again this season. His hip injury flared up last season, forcing him to pull out from the 4 Nations Face-Off competition, where he planned to represent Canada.
Despite being side-lined, the two-time Stanley cup champion has remained in Las Vegas, offering mentorship to younger players and maintaining a connection with the team. Whether or not Pietrangelo returns to the ice, his leadership and presence will remain invaluable to the Knights. If he does return, it would significantly strengthen their defensive line and potentially boost their chances in another deep playoff run.
