Uncertainty Surrounds Rasmus Andersson’s Future with Flames Amid Trade Rumors

The Calgary Flames are facing an uncertain future with regards to defenseman Rasmus Andersson’s contract. Anderson, now entering his final contract year, is reportedly uncertain about whether to secure his future with the Flames through a long-term extension.

The Flames are reportedly considering offering Anderson an eight-year deal, but trade rumors are also circulating as the NHL season approaches. Anderson is said to be ready to play his best for the Flames, but a trade closer to the deadline remains a likely scenario if the Flames do not make a decisive move in regards to his contract.

In the spotlight as he enters the final year of his $27.3 million deal, unrestricted free agency is on the horizon for Anderson in 2026. NHL insider Pierre LeBrun states Anderson’s future depends on whether the Flames are committed to an eight-year extension.

In recent comments, Anderson himself has expressed no rush to enter new negotiations. He feels that after a frustrating season, waiting might be a better approach.

Despite last season’s discouragements, Anderson remains a reliable top-four defender with 11 goals and 31 points in 81 games. Trade rumors could intensify as the year unfolds, unless the Flames make a decisive move.
