Austin Theory’s absence from WWE programming could be longer than expected. According to Mike Johnson from PWInsider, the 28-year-old has been temporarily removed from WWE’s internal list of active talent. His last match was on July 14, on Main Event, where he was defeated by El Grande Americano.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp clarified that Theory hasn’t been entirely removed from the roster but has been placed on the internal injury list, alongside Zoey Stark and Ilja Dragunov.
Although Grayson Waller mentioned Theory’s injury on a recent episode of Raw, WWE hasn’t provided any concrete details about the nature of his injury or a possible return date. There is speculation that Theory could undergo a character change before his next appearance on TV.
The Future of A-Town Down?
Theory and Waller formed a duo called A-Town Down Under after Waller was drafted to SmackDown in April 2023. Their highlight moment was at WrestleMania XL, where they captured the WWE Tag Team Championships in a Six-Pack Ladder Match. However, they lost the titles to #DIY 90 days later.
Their momentum further declined after being moved to Raw in January, leading to their disbandment following Theory’s injury. Waller has since started a new storyline with The New Day, marking the end of their partnership.
Fan reactions varied. One tweeted: “Seriously, where is he? I hope I’m wrong, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they released Austin Theory by the end of the year.” Another replied, “I seriously doubt Austin Theory will be released. He is the future face of WWE. Probably just injury-related, at least we can hope.”
