Unexpected Sacramento Kings’ Ranking with Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls Irks NBA | NBA News Times of India
The Sacramento Kings have seemingly caused a shakeup in the NBA community with their unexpected grouping with the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls in the latest rankings for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Such rankings, although mere predictions, have elicited a series of debates among analysts and fans alike.
Despite having been placed 21st out of the 30 teams in the most recent NBA power rankings from Bleacher Report analyst Andy Bailey, Sacramento Kings managed to be ranked ahead of Phoenix Suns and Philadelphia 76ers, but behind Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls.
Their grouping has further raised eyebrows due to the fact that they were ranked close to the Indiana Pacers and Portland Trail Blazers, which resulted in an unusual combination of teams in the mid-to-lower bracket of the chart. This has raised questions as both the Celtics and Pacers are expected to be without their key stars – Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton respectively.
In spite of these odds, Bailey suggests that Sacramento Kings could potentially utilise their current roster to aspire for a playoff position, although they might not extend much beyond the play-in round. Teams ranked between 15th place through 24th included Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Phoenix Suns.
Sacramento Kings recent offseason moves have left fans questioning the team’s direction. The Kings had entered the 2025 offseason in pursuit of massive alterations under their new General Manager, Scott Perry. Despite holding talks with multiple teams about potential trades involving Sacramento Kings’ players, no major deal materialised.
Their most notable move featured acquiring veteran point guard Dennis Schroder in a sign-and-trade deal with the Detroit Pistons, which led to Schroder agreeing to a three-year, $44.4 million contract. This move was met with mixed reactions from fans who had anticipated the team aiming for a more renowned point guard.
The Kings’ key players – Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan – have previously shown mediocre success, and despite the emergence of younger players like Keon Ellis, Keegan Murray, Nique Clifford, and Maxime Raynaud, most analysts predict the team will find difficulty rising above the mid-level of the rankings.
Perry believes the Kings still have significant potential for growth, but with the minimal alterations in their roster, many predict that the 2025-26 season could be a year of transition for the team. Given the Kings still possess their own 2026 first-round draft pick, it could turn out to be a boon if the team ends the upcoming season near the bottom of the rankings.
