Update on LeBron James’ Absence in Warriors Game Due to Injury

LeBron James, the long-standing NBA star, will not be playing in the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Golden State Warriors on October 21, 2025. The 40-year-old athlete picked up an injury that leads to his absence from the game. James is stepping into the final season of his contract with the Lakers after accepting his $52.6 million player option in late June.

The Lakers disclosed on October 9 that a sciatica issue affected James on his right side. Consequently, he is expected to miss the first few weeks of the regular season. This decision followed a team update stating that James would undergo re-evaluation in three to four weeks after the announcement. The team had previously revealed that James suffered from nerve irritation in his glute.

Adding to his complications, James did not compete in any preseason games that year, nor practice fully with the team due to the persisting injury. The team’s coach, JJ Reddick, mentioned that James was proceeding on his ‘own timeline’.

The complication, known as Sciatica, causes pain that travels along the Sciatic nerve, from the rear end down each leg. Common reasons for Sciatica include a herniated disk or bone overgrowth pressuring the lumbar spine nerve roots, causing inflammation, pain, and numbness in the affected leg. The pain produced can range from mild aches to sharp, burning sensations.
