“This summer’s New York showcase will be the first tennis event to offer $90 million in total player compensation, setting a new record for tennis history. This is a 20% increase from the previous high of $75 million in 2024,” according to the US Open’s official website.

“The 2025 US Open men’s and women’s singles champions will each receive $5 million, which is a 39% increase from the $3.6 million awarded in 2024, making it the largest payout in the sport,” the website noted.

Public Reaction to the Prize Money

Social media users have been active in expressing their opinions about the increased prize money.

One user on X commented, “And how much is a ticket?” Another questioned, “Is that the reason ticket prices are now unaffordable?”

“Men and Women both getting $5 million for a singles final is ridiculous,” commented a user on X. Another pointed out the logistical changes, stating, “You’re making more profit because you no longer need to pay line umpires and plan to hold a mixed doubles exhibition before the main event.”

“The US Open continually sets the benchmark, raising standards in the sport regardless of challenges. This year’s record purse is truly impressive!” shared an enthusiastic user.

The qualifying matches for the US Open 2025 began earlier this week on August 18.
