Valentine’s Day Card from Mom Sparks Patrick Mahomes’ Greatest Victory– A High School Tale” | NFL News Times of India

Before Patrick Mahomes achieved fame as a two-time Super Bowl champion and a leading figure in the NFL, he was a Texas high school student trying to make an impression on a girl who only saw him as a friend. This situation changed one Valentine’s Day when Mahomes, guided by his mother Randi, did something that would set the direction of his life.

In 2012, Mahomes, then a sophomore at Whitehouse High School, was known for his athletic abilities but not for grand romantic gestures. Brittany Matthews, who was a year older, considered him as just a friend. This until, one February day in the school cafeteria, Mahomes appeared with a single rose and a card, surprising her.

“My mom had given me a card to give to somebody,” Mahomes admitted. “I was like, I’m going to give it to Brittany, I’m going to surprise her at lunch.” That simple yet sincere act changed their friend status. From then on, they started talking more, and their bond grew stronger. With the cafeteria gift representing the unofficial beginning of a relationship that has continued far beyond their high school years.

Their romance from that Valentine’s Day has continued for more than a decade. They navigated through long-distance during college, during Brittany’s professional soccer career in Iceland, and amid Mahomes’ rapid rise in the NFL. By 2020, they were engaged. Two years later, they got married in Hawaii and are now parents of three, juggling family life with the rigors of NFL fame. They never forget the simple act – a card, a rose, and a mother’s gentle push, that has changed everything.
