Venezuelan baseball star, Jesús Montero, passed away at age 35 following a sudden motorcycle crash. Formerly a catcher for New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners, Montero’s untimely death has sent shockwaves throughout the major league baseball (MLB) community. The fatal accident took place in his native country, Venezuela, on 4th October 2025.
The ex-MLB player met with an unfortunate accident when a pickup truck hit his motorcycle, inflicting precarious injuries on him. Despite immediate medical aid and multiple surgeries, he succumbed to his injuries two weeks later. This tragic incident has left fans, teammates and the entire baseball community reeling with sorrow.
Making his major league debut at 21, Montero played 18 games with the Yankees before being traded to Seattle Mariners. Known for his powerful batting, he played 208 games, scored 28 runs and recorded 104 RBIs during his Mariners’ tenure. Following his exit from MLB in 2015, Montero remained attached to the sport by playing in the Venezuelan Winter League until the 2020-21 season.
