Verstappen Dominates Azerbaijan F1 Grand Prix Amidst Family…

At the Azerbaijan F1 Grand Prix, Max Verstappen took his fourth win of the season with his grandmother present to witness the victory. Additionally, Carlos Sainz achieved his first podium finish. Verstappen was dominant throughout the race, following up his previous win in Monza.

There was a surprise as there was no McLaren car on the podium, with Mercedes’ George Russell coming in second and Carlos Sainz finishing third. This result pushed McLaren’s wait to win the Constructors’ Championship even further as neither Lando Norris nor Oscar Piastri were in the top three.

Verstappen was very pleased with his team’s performance, remarking on an “incredible weekend”. He praised the car’s performance and seemed relieved at the minimal presence of safety cars. Russell also received commendation for achieving his seventh podium of the season, thereby accumulating a total of 212 points in Driver Standings.

There was added joy for Carlos Sainz who secured his first podium finish with Williams after shifting from Ferrari. The Spaniard started the race from the second place on the grid and stayed ahead to reach the podium. He expressed his happiness about the achievement and his pride in the Williams team.

The end result also saw Kimi Antonelli finishing fourth and Liam Lawson closely following on in fifth, solid performances for rookie drivers. Yuki Tsunoda managed to secure sixth place, while Lando Norris came in seventh. Ferrari’s duo Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc ended up at eighth and ninth respectively. Finally, Isack Hadjar from Racing Bulls rounded up the top ten.

However, it was a disappointing event for championship leader and last year’s winner, Oscar Piastri, who crashed into barriers on the first lap and subsequently retired from the race. He was handed a five-second penalty for moving before the start signal and his race ended shortly after due to hitting the wall. Williams driver Alex Albon also received a penalty, a 10-second one, for making contact with Alpine’s Franco Colapinto.
