Victim’s Lawyer Criticizes NFL Player Rashee Rice Over Unmet Payments after Car Crash”
The attorney for a victim of a car crash involving Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is criticizing both Rice and the NFL. Despite pleading guilty to two felony charges related to the crash, Rice is expected to play in the upcoming 2025 NFL season. However, the crash victim’s attorney has criticized the lack of accountability from Rice and the NFL since the civil settlement that stemmed from the crash is still unpaid.
Rice is still on course to participate in some of Kansas City’s key early-season games, while the NFL has reportedly chosen to hold off on a disciplinary ruling until late September. This means Rice could appear in at least the first four matches of the regular season.
Marc Lenahan, attorney for one of the crash victims, Kathryn Kuykendall, expressed anger about this in an interview with TMZ Sports. He outlined that Rice had agreed to a $1 million civil settlement in April, but had not yet paid it. He views it as unacceptable that Rice continues to play for the Chiefs while evading financial responsibility for the damages caused by the accident.
In addition, he criticized the NFL’s handling of the case and its silence on the matter as the season approaches. Lenahan suggested Rice should not be allowed to celebrate the season without addressing his financial obligations.
The crash in question occurred in March 2024, where Rice was reportedly racing a rented 2020 Lamborghini Urus on a Texas highway. He lost control and collided with several cars, then left the scene without offering assistance to anyone injured. Rice was later arrested and pleaded guilty in July to two felonies. Despite this, Rice has remained active with the Chiefs throughout training camp and preseason.
Typically, the NFL swiftly addresses disciplinary concerns after a legal process is concluded. However, in this case, the NFL is reportedly not planning to make a decision on Rice until at least September 30, allowing him to participate in the Chiefs’ opener against the Los Angeles Chargers and several high-profile games.
