World Boxing Championships: India’s Jaismine, Nupur Reach…

Jaismine Lamboria and Nupur Sheoran, two Indian female boxers, advanced to the finals of the World Boxing Championships, with their victories sparking a medal rush for India. Lamboria secured her spot in the final after defeating Venezuela’s Omailyn Carolina Alcala Segovia 5-0 in the women’s 57kg semi-finals. She will now face Julia Szeremeta of Poland, a silver medalist from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Similarly, Sheoran won 5-0 over Turkey’s Duztas Seyma, progressing to the women’s 80+kg final. Meanwhile, young boxer Minakshi Hooda also had an impressive performance, advancing through to the semi-finals of the women’s 48kg category. Hooda’s unanimous 5-0 win over England’s Alice Pumphrey secured a fourth medal for India at the Championships.

However, the Indian men’s team suffered a blow as their last remaining fighter, Jadumani Singh Mandengbam, was defeated in the 50kg category quarter-final against Sanzhar Tashkenbay of Kazakhstan. This means that for the first time since 2013, India’s men’s squad finished a campaign without a single medal.
