Yashasvi Jaiswal Tasked with Pursuing Sehwag’s Mighty 300 Run…
Indian cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal’s remarkable form continues as he recently scored a splendid 175 against the West Indies in a Test match at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. His commendable innings was filled with patience, control, and elegance — characteristics that have become his signature. After a steady opening stand with KL Rahul, he paired up with B Sai Sudharsan to form a massive partnership of 193 runs.
Gracing the match with elegance and skill, Jaiswal confidently propelled the loose deliveries while smoothly rotating the strike. He stylishly celebrated his century and further went on to cross 150 for the fifth time in 26 Tests. Unfortunately, on the following day, his phenomenal innings was cut short when he was run out at 175.
Former cricket player, Mohammed Kaif was among the many who were impressed by his performance. He acknowledged Jaiswal’s ability to score big and predicted that Jaiswal may break Virender Sehwag’s record of 300 runs in a Test match.
This century held exceptional significance as it was Jaiswal’s seventh Test hundred before he turned 24, a record surpassed only by Don Bradman (12), Sachin Tendulkar (11), and Garfield Sobers (9). This feat places him alongside cricket legends like Javed Miandad, Graeme Smith, Alastair Cook, and Kane Williamson who achieved the same at the age.
Since his debut, Jaiswal enormously impacted the India’s opening department with his consistent performances. In this period, he alone scored seven hundreds while all other India openers combined managed six. As compared to other worldwide teams, England’s Ben Duckett was the next successful opener with four centuries in the same time frame. Furthermore, the 23-year-old reached another milestone in the innings, completing 3000 international runs in just 50 matches, joining the quartet of Indian left-handed openers to achieve the landmark, including Sourav Ganguly, Gautam Gambhir and Shikhar Dhawan.
